My sister and I spent a lovely week vacationing in Mexico over Christmas vacation. We traveled to the Riviera Maya which is south of Cancun for 6 nights. Riviera Maya is the complete opposite of the party scene in Cancun. It is peaceful and extremely relaxing!
We stayed at the Grand Bahia Principe Tulum Resort. The resort was wonderful! It was my first experience at an all inclusive resort and it was fabulous! Now I understand the appeal! Grand Bahia Principe consists of four resorts on its complex - Tulum, Akumal, Coba, and Sian Ka'an. We booked our stay at the Tulum resort however we had access to all the resorts during your stay.
Here are a few pictures of the resort - I woke up early one morning to catch the sunrise and had the chance to capture wonderful pictures of the grounds.
The suites were colorful and extremely spacious. The only thing was that it was rather humid during our stay and everything was just muggy. We just cranked the AC and that helped with the muggy smell - however some Febreze would have been nice.
Overall I was extremely happy with the resort! The location, staff, food, service, activities, and everything else was amazing! I definitely recommend this resort to anyone traveling to the Riviera Maya! We booked our room and package directly from the online website.
We also rented a car while we were there because we planned on leaving the resort to visit the Mayan Ruins of Tulum, Coba, and Chichen Itza. It was only an hour drive from Cancun airport to the resort. Thankfully driving was easy because there is one major highway - the 307 - that runs north to south of the Riviera Maya. There are a ton of signs and everyone is very friendly when asking for directions - we didn't have a GPS and managed not to get lost at all thankfully. Driving in Mexico was vastly different from the US because of all the crazy speed bumps and random police checkpoints - but it wasn't bad at all.
Check back over the next couple days and I will share all the wonderful things we did during our stay!!
