Mount Vernon was home to George Washington and his wife Martha Washington. The estate is located along the Potomac River in Northern Virginia. George Washington's Mount Vernon has been on my list of places to visit when I moved to MD.
Mount Vernon celebrates the autumn season with Fall Harvest Family Days each year. My sister and I decided to get in the fall spirit and visited Mount Vernon this past weekend.
We arrived early to the estate [10am] to beat the busy weekend crowd.
We started off with viewing the Upper Garden.
Afterwards we took a tour of The Mansion. No photography is allowed in the mansion [boo] however there is a guide in each part of the house that explains the significance of each room. During our visit The New Room ( or Large Dining Room) was under restoration. The New Room will hopefully become fully restored in Spring 2014 according to our guide.
For Fall Harvest Family Days at Mount Vernon there were many fun activities taking place! We stopped by all the tents and checked out the activities. The highlights were;
Apple-Roasting
Early American Music
Corn Husk Doll Demonstration
All in all the estate was a great place to visit! It was a nice glimpse into the early American History.
If you plan on traveling to the VA/DC/MD area I recommend taking a trip to Mount Vernon!
