Architects of Air: Miracoco

The Ann Arbor Summer Festival is in full swing! One event I was excited about visiting was Architects of Air. If you are not familiar with Architects of Air make sure to visit their website and read all about them! Basically they build luminaria which are inflatable structures that "generate a sense of wonder at the beauty of light and color." The Luminaria Miracoco was on tour in Ann Arbor last week as part of the Ann Arbor Summer Festival. I didn't know much about the Miracoco luminarium and the inspiration behind it - however thanks to the wonderful staff and handouts I was able to learn that the Miracoco luminaries was "inspired by Islamic architecture and features winding passages of small domes inspired by repetitious forms found in bazaars of Iran." Another interesting fact is that the luminosity light and color inside the structure is created entirely through the coloured plastic. In addition there was music played inside the luminarium by David Bickley. It was a very cool experience and I'm glad I was able to go! Check out to see if Architects of Air is Touring near you!
